The Beach

Much more than a stunning sandy beach, Camber is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and has the only sand dune system in East Sussex.

The beach at Camber is 5 miles of dune fringed golden sand stretches over two counties. Voted 9th in the Sunday Times Magazine’s 100 Best Beaches in the World, and features on TV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks.

Such a unique place has been a mecca to artists from the worlds of fashion, music and film.

Kate Moss launched her career here with a shoot for The Face at the tender age of fifteen and Paul McCartney, who lives locally, shot one of his music videos on the beach. Camber has hosted Hollywood A listers galore with Eddie Redmayne, Daniel Day Lewis, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Gal Gadot, Kevin Costner and Hugh Bonneville all filming at Camber Sands within the last few years. The beach has even hosted episodes of Dr Who though we’re not sure how the Daleks coped with the sand.

In this unique environment the landscape changes daily with the tide and shifting sand. And there are endless things to do from beachcombing and dune jumping to kite surfing in the sea or buggying on the beach. There’s golf at Rye or Littlestone, tennis in Rye and outdoor karting at Lydd. For a more relaxing time try a yoga class on the beach or just kick back and watch horses galloping in the surf, children building sandcastles or burying dads on the beach.

Come evening, the foreshore will be yours to sit by the fire pit and gaze at the stars, in your own private little dune system. And its then that you’ll realise you’ve had the sand between your toes all day.
